Alpine confirm Colapinto will remain alongside Gasly in 2027 line-up

Alpine has confirmed Franco Colapinto will remain at the team next year for what will be his second full season in Formula 1.

The 23-year-old joined the team last season, replacing Jack Doohan from the seventh round of the season in Miami. He ended the season point-less as Alpine struggled throughout the year with an uncompetitive car.

He has enjoyed more success this year, his first full season as an F1 driver, taking his best result so far with sixth place in the Canadian Gerand Prix. Colapinto has scored 19 points so far, putting him 12 in the championship, two places behind team mate Pierre Gasly.

The pair will remain team mates next year. “For me, having consistency is very important,” said Alpine’s executive consultant Flavio Briatore. “We are now settled from a driver point of view and I have said many times that, while this is an important piece of the puzzle, the most significant we have to get right is designing and building a fast race car which absolutely remains our number one priority.

“We have seen Franco truly grow and mature into a great driver this year. His results in Miami and Montreal especially confirmed what I already knew: Franco belongs in Formula 1 and he belongs at this team.”

Colapinto said he is “very pleased” to renew his contract with Alpine. “I feel very happy and very settled here and it’s been even better that we have made significant progress this year compared to last.”

He made his F1 debut in 2024 at Williams, replacing Logan Sargeant after the Dutch Grand Prix. The Alpine driver is the only Argentinian to race in F1 over the last 20 years and the team arranged a show run for him in Buenos Aires in April.
